Knowing how to start a fire in the rain is an essential skill that everyone should have…

This is particularly important if you live in an area that has a long wet season.

That’s because long periods of wet weather make it exponentially more difficult to find materials that aren’t completely soaked.

There are many different techniques you could employ to build a fire in the rain depending on the situation you find yourself in, but the basic principles are usually the same…

There are 3 Basic Steps to Start a Fire in the Rain

  1. Prepare a dry area that will protect your materials from the rain
  2. Procure the dry materials needed to start and fuel your fire
  3. Ignite the materials

However, this is sometimes easier said than done.

You Need to Be Prepared

A degree of foresight and preparation is needed on your part before you even end up in a situation that requires you to build a fire in the rain.

If you’re caught unprepared then starting a fire in wet conditions is nearly impossible.

That’s why it’s CRUCIAL to always have your tools on you…

    • It is also useful for igniting your fire if you carry a ferro rod

Any or all of these items can easily be kept on your person at most times without issue.

Knowledge is Key

Of course it would also be helpful to carry around tinder and kindling as well, but this isn’t always practical.
